Lucas Barrón, el peruano que es el primer piloto con síndrome de Down en competir en el Dakar

(CNN Español) -- Este domingo un hombre peruano de 25 años hizo historia en el Rally Dakar, llamada la carrera más peligrosa del mundo. Se trata de Lucas Barrón, el primer piloto con síndrome de Down en participar en la competencia.

Barrón es el copiloto de su padre, Jacques Barrón, y corren un vehículo Polaris RZR 1000 Turbo en la categoría de autos.

El Rally Dakar 2019 lleva a más de 500 pilotos a recorrer 5.000 kilómetros en 10 etapas. El 70% del recorrido se hará en arena.

Según la agencia de prensa Andina, Lucas Barrón corre desde que tenía 8 años y practica con su padre en las dunas de Perú.

En septiembre este equipo de padre e hijo corrió en la carrera preparatoria para el Rally Dakar y terminaron en séptimo lugar.

"Es una decisión consensuada", dijo Jacques Barrón a Efe sobre la decisión de que Lucas participara en el Dakar, "la mamá tiene que decir y Lucas también".

"Si quieres hacer algo especial, trabaja duro y llega a la meta", dijo por su parte Lucas Barrón en entrevista con AFP.

"Él es los ojos del carro. Está viendo si es que viene algún otro competidor por ahí. Como estamos corriendo por el desierto y las dunas, no es que estés yendo por una pista, entonces puede llegar alguien por acá y no lo ves", explicó su padre sobre el papel de su hijo en el equipo.
